Wednesday 3/12 - Master's @ LAC 2300m

Wahoo! made it to the 5:45 am ... yes AM ... workout this morning. I am not a morning person. So just making the workout is a pretty big accomplishment. But I do like that by 7, I have one of my workouts in the books. Miles of Trials, trials of miles. Or in this case meters. Hung in with the folks in the lane I joined on the shorter reps, 25s and 50s. But as the distances went up, I fell off the pace. Makes sense though, so no worries. I figure it will take a month or two of just getting in volume while working good form before I can really start to work the fitness aspect of the workouts.

This morning did provide some great feedback though. I hit a few of the 100s in around 1:34. 1:34 per 100 pace works out to just under 1 hr for an Ironman swim. Now, I know there is NO way I could hold that pace right now. I could barely keep it together for 100, let alone 3800....but, I also know that it's easier to add endurance than to build speed. So seeing that I have the form/speed to swim my goal pace now, without any swim fitness, 6 months out, was nice feedback this morning.

How much does one slow from a pool to an open water swim?

It's a wash...you lose the turns (push off the walls) but you wear a wet suit. So when I can swim 4x300m, leaving on a next 300 every 4:45 secs, I'll know I'm good to go.
