Compartment syndrome, or something close enough. Not sure if that's exactly what it is, but that's close enough. The muscles that surround the compartment that sits behind the bones of my lower leg are inflamed. They compress the compartment that holds the nerves and major blood vessels. The result is "ouch". Starts with two things, flat feet, and a twist in the pelvis. It's usually something that I can keep at bay. But I think last Wednesday track work in the cold, pushed me over the edge.
So into recovery mode. The good news is that I think I caught it early enough. Today was a water run, 30 minutes, calling it 3 miles. This is a tough workout mentally. It was very difficult to keep focused on moving my legs quickly. Then I stayed in the pool to teach a lesson. I'm enjoying being in the water again. First because it's a strength and I generally just feel better after a swim workout. And second, I love the idea of starting off such a long day as IM with confidence and security. IM will throw enough challenges at me as the day goes on. So being able to truly cruise the swim in about an hour, will be the perfect start to the day.
