Starting the day with a few quotes -
"We also agreed, however, that it's not always worth worrying about the doubters. Remain positive, do what you love with all your heart, and the rest will take care of itself. And even if it doesn't, you're doing what you love! " - Lucho & Chuckie V.
Do what you love and the rest will follow...is that true with everything in life? I know I've just started living this way again. For a long time I lived pretending to be the person that I thought I needed to be to reach my goals. I was a chameleon. I got very good at pretending to be the person that I thought I should be, rather than the person I am. I got to tell you, this worked in the short term. But you can only act so long. Sooner or later this will catch up to you. It caught up to me early last year. The life that I had 'acted' my way into crumbled. As with all things, set backs lead to growth. I am who I am and I need to live and love true to myself. One thing I love is endurance sports. As my good friend GZ says, it captures the spirit of the human experience. (I'm paraphrasing here)
Another quote that fits into my current thinking....
"Type-A age group athletes typically let their goals for the season dictate their rate of improvement rather than letting their rate of improvement dictate their seasonal goals. " - Alan C.
My goal this year is to be the best triathlete I can be. Start from "my" begining. Take my current fitness and skills and build from there. Why put these two quotes together? Don't pretend to be the athlete in the magazine. Base your training on your own reality. The question I ask myself each day is "What can I do today that will help me become the best ironman I can become?"

This is a hard balance for folks. We naturally compare ourselves to others, but ultimately, we need to compare ourselves to ourselves and how we have move ourselves forward.
Really, the comparasions to others I think simply end up serving as yet another motivational tool to improve ourselves. It is when that gets turned around that things get whacked. In other words, don't improve yourself to compare yourselves to others. Compare yourself to others to improve yourself (and in the right context)
Or something like that.
Get that leg better.
