Field test for Functional Threshold Power. 2x20 min(2min easy spin in between) shooting for the best avg. Came out at 198 Watts. That matches up nicely with the full on, blood lactate in the lab with expensive equipment test I took a week ago. That's good news, that the field test results nicely match up with the results from the lab.
The not so good news is that my FTP hasn't changed much since the middle of Feb. I did some thinking about this and it sort of fits with what I felt during the ride yesterday and the training I've been doing. Over the last 3 or four weeks, I've been slack about getting in the Sunday ride. Sunday's are longer efforts at 85%-95% of FTP. I've been hitting the weekly hard rides with efforts at 120% of FTP though.
During the test yesterday I could spike my power up to 250+ anytime I wanted, I just couldn't hold it. so it seems my peak output has improved, but I haven't done the work to allow myself to maintain this higher out put.
So for the next 3 weeks I'll be good about nailing the "endurance" workouts. And then retest.
