I hesitate to put this in writing...as maybe by acknowledging it, it may make it disappear...but it seems I'm getting more fit. Last night I decided to run just because it was nice out. Off I went, never straining, just running along, listening to tunes, enjoying the sun and sky. Every time I looked down at my pace, I saw something below 8:00. Ummm, I thought, that's fast, I should relax (after all I can't run that fast, who am I kidding). So I'd relax some and go back to cruising. but then I'd look down and still be below 8s. Weird. "Ok, go with it, just stay relaxed and roll on" . I stopped for a 30 seconds or so when I saw my gf and Stoli the corgi on their walk. Even that mile with the stop was below 8. I was pretty giddy at this point, just rolling along, enjoying the easy speed. Ended up with 49:30 for 6.5 miles. 7:37/mile. there was a stretch where my HR was at 171, which is my half ironman run HR, so I was definitely out of zone 1, but my perceived effort was low. This is the first non-race run in a long long time, where I averaged under 8s.
I'll have to go find a 5k soon and see what I can do with this new and improved fitness :)
