Interesting run today. The workout called for 5 miles EZ, 10 miles Tempo, and 1 mile EZ. What I got in was 5 miles EZ, 9 miles Tempo and 1 mile EZ. The first 5 went by easily enough. I did find myself ramping up the speed at around 3.5. I was getting nervous and excited to start the tempo section. Looking back, I should have just started that section here instead of waiting till 5 miles. So off on the tempo I go. Felt fine really, was holding ~7:45s and my hr was right at the top of zone 2. I ran an out and back and on the way back, things were still going well.....then....dadadaaaaaa...well, it wasn't that dramatic. I let mind wonder off. Just running along thinking about racing, cars, insurance, and any number of other things. When I came back to the task at hand, I was running at the top of zone 3. Somewhere around 7:15 pace or so. Now the interesting thing happened. Remember the post for Thursday "don't let the numbers affect your emotions". Yeah, well, they did. I got scared and slowed down to get my HR down...and that affectly ended the tempo effort. I never came back around and get moving again. When I started bringing my pace back up, my HR would go right back up to the top of z3 and even into z4 at times. So I called it. 9 miles at tempo. I'll get the numbers up when I download them. It really wasn't a bad workout at all. I was a little creaky from Wednesday's in the cold track workout. I think that workout hurt me a little more than I originally thought.
That is all...for now....Kia Kaha

Two quick thoughts ... one, Wednesday was tough in that crap. Two ... when you feel it, just go with it. Unless it is the first interval. Or mile 2 in a marathon.
I have a general aversion to HR monitors because of this very factor. I know that I will dig into it and forget about how I feel. While the data is good, and often is telling ... there are times you just gotta roll.
Nice run.
