Boulder Peak

Good stuff. Made a good go of it. Felt in control and focused on execution. Felt ok during the swim. Nothing too exciting to report. Decent t1 and on to the bike. Kept things under control up to Old Stage and just made it up the thing. It's a silly steep hill. Came through 10 miles 34:45. Last year came through this mark in 35 minutes. I was a little disappointed when I saw that. But the only goal that mattered was to "Execution, Without Judgement". So I put my head down and kept it rolling. The back of the course went by pretty fast. I felt really good working the rollers on 63rd. And even the stretch on the Diagonal felt pretty good. I was over 3 minutes faster over the last 16 than last year, averaged 27.6 mph for that stretch.

Coming into T2, I knew I was close to breaking 1:10 for the ride. So I took a chance and really let it fly into the dismount line. I think it was my best dismount ever. Left the shoes on the bike and slowed just enough to land running. When I hit the ground in stride and jetted over the timing mat. once in the transition area, I slowed to a more controlled pace. Shoe one, shoe two, helmet and glasses off, grab the visor and race belt and gone. The last two races, I've run without glasses, just a visor and that seems to work well. I can pull the visor down low and just focus on doing my thing.

The run was alright as well. Didn't feel fresh and springy like some of the sprints I've done this year, but that's to be expected. Made it to the turn in 21:41. Brought it home in 22. No real difficultly other than it hurt. I didn't have a whole lot for the hills, so let my pace drop off, keep my feet moving as fast as I could and rolled over the top. Thankfully, I was able to get back to pace pretty quick after each hill.

So PR race with a big ride PR (3:37) and a PR run (51 seconds). A good day.

The after the race, got a bit to eat. And then rode the course and did the run again with the F4 guys. The second round was tough. I had a hard time with eating for the second round. Got through it though. We did the second ride in 1:22 and then ran for 55, the last 3 miles were at 8:30 pace.

PS note to self: Saturday was a basic workout, more than the normal taper/rest workout I normally do. I swam 1500 with some fast 100s and then did 30 min on the bike with a climb up McCaslin (about 4 minutes, 250 to 300W) Did some 1 min efforts on the flats looking for smooth and aero.
