Sunday, 52 mile ride and a 15 min run. Meet up with the FastForwardSports.net crew on Sunday am. Got in 40 easy minutes and then headed out for another 1:45 with some of the ironman group. Hooked up with Cary who is my new GFF (Get Fast Friend). He's a very strong rider. He's a bike racer, so super smooth and calm as he rides. Very good roll model. I rode above the prescribed zones some so I could stay with him. Spent about 1hr above half ironman pace and some of that time (~20 min) was near Olympic pace. Good ride. I was surprised at how quickly the time went by and how fast we were traveling. We are 16 weeks out from IM, so I figure I have another 6 weeks to ride "too hard" before I really need to start practicing IM pacing.
Hooped off the bike back at CMS and out for 15 min on foot. Easy 7.5 out and then at 10 min I picked it up some to see what "fast" would feel like after 2.5 hours on the bike. I was pleasently surprised again when I finished up the run at 6:20/mile pace. (keeping in mind that I was running down a false flat at the time :) ) the way the run felt also told me that even though I cooked the bike a little, I was still within reason. Today (monday) will be a good indicator as well, if I'm feeling recovered by the afternoon, then yesterday's ride was about right.
On the drive home, I drank a recovery drink. and for the last surprise of the day, I wasn't feeling wrecked or wiped out. Worked for a few hours in the garage with Keri cleaning up and getting all the tools put away. By 4 we had the garage back in order.
It feels good to have the house cleaned up and sorted again. During the deck project, things were a little scattered and messy. Both K and I feel better when there is some sort of order and routine in life.
