Three runs, three rides, one swim, one roundy-round session on the velodrome. I'm feeling a little jumbled this morning, so this post will be random. Let's work backward. Took a beginners session on the track yesterday. And I didn't crash! I wish I would have worn my HR monitor though. I was so nervous as I was waiting to get on the track I was shaking. But it all went well. Getting on and off the fixed gear bike was the hardest part. Riding on the track wasn't bad as long as you committed. I was pretty happy that during my turn at the end of the class, I was able to get all the way down into lane one. It's pretty crazy and fun down there. Also when I showed up Taylor Phinney was on the track. He raced for the US in Bejing this last summer. So I got to see an Olympian yesterday. I also ran into several folks I know from the Boulder riding community. It was a fun trip. Now I have to decide if I want to follow through and track a class to get certified.
5k on Saturday morning. It was a training race with the Colorado Master's Running Club. The race took place in Arvada. It was down right chilly and way hillier than I thought it was going to be. Overall, I'm ok with my time. I was hoping to see a small PR, but there's been a few things that got in the way. I'm 6 pounds heavier and it was a hilly course. It was cold, I never really felt truly warmed up. And mostly, I've scaled back the running and have been on the bike trainer hitting it pretty hard. So 20:22. 7 miles total for the day.
Take aways from the race. Add back another run day, 4 days a week. Practice my form at race speeds, running down the hills, I couldn't get my legs to move faster. So add short hill repeats and short intervals focused on leg turnover and posture.
Wednesday's run was nice too. Decent weather, went out after work with my gf. It was a good run. The main set was 2 times 15 minutes at the top of z3. I ended up averaging 7:15 for those intervals. That's a pretty good number for me.
So far a good start to the new year.
Kia Kaha!
